Behind the scenes

With regular posts we want to give you interesting insights on how our project idea had developed and grown. A true view behind the scenes of UU Talks!

# Post 2: Very first edition of UU Talks shows its great potential!

The first UU Talks evening was featured by energy issues as we managed to bring on our Green Office stage two pretty talented 'energy sciences' guys, Tim Krozen and Timmy de Vos. Tim came to present his ideas on future energy systems, whilst Timmy's speech was devoted to a unique strategy of making e-waste recycling easier and funny for children.

Premier Talks lured nice attendance when the Office space had been slowly filling up with visitors, who were provided with some little snacks and there was more than enough drinks for everyone. After the last details were tuned and warm-up vivid conversations, everything was set up for the jubilee take off.

The first speaker Timmy was followed by Tim, both of whom having great success, when each presentation was followed by eager and enthusiastic debates. The audience got involved to such an extent that discussions finally had to be discontinued due to running out of time when we were approaching night hours! It was most pleasant to see everybody had a nice time and it also displayed great potential the UU Talks has for the coming months.

Our team of organisers is delighted to thank Tim and Timmy for their great presentations and passion coupled with patience while responding inquiring questions. We are also more than happy to thank to Green Office staff for providing us with the catering, necessary technical equipments and their huge favour for this project. Last but not ever least, we would like to thank to all guests for their participation, since it is them to whom UU Talks are devoted.

Importantly, both presentations were recorded on video camera and subsequently uploaded on youtube. You can see a summary of the event at

Or directly on YouTube:

We are also delighted to announce that our next speakers for the UU Talks in March will be Koen van Oostende, delivering speech about the biocircular economy, and Celine van Bijsterveldt with her presentation on ecosystem service and human interference.

Everybody is invited and more details will follow soon!

# Post 1: Let us hear a little bit about the very idea of the UU Talks!

UU Talks is meant to be a platform (not only) for students to share and debate their inspiring and possibly groundbreaking ideas in the field of sustainable development. Providing students with an opportunity to express their innovative approaches, it is meant to be a vehicle to transport creative solutions for challenging problems.

The thought was born in the head of a young international student Rob, who has devoted his life to fight for brighter, cleaner and greener future for us, our children and all living creatures on this planet. While setting a pretty hot pace in producing more and more brand new ideas, he now needed to get others on his board in order to help him to make his visions come true. Not suprisingly, with enormous portion of enthuism, it did not take him much time to find them.

A small group of students from different corners of the world established themselves in the Utrecht University Green Office, where provided with pleasant working environment, they could finally get down to work!

Now the work is being done on the legalising of the UU Talks logo design, while arranging the necessary accessories like video camera, beamer and for many of us the most important thing: funds for getting some food and drinks :). If everything goes well, the first UU Talk ever would take off in January 2014!

Official news about the achievements will follow soon!
